Caramel Syrup / Buttermilk Syrup

My sister made this sweet creamy syrup for the family the last time we were at Bear Lake.   I love caramel, so I fell in love with this recipe.  I would much rather caramel syrup than maple syrup.  She served it over french toast.  It would be yummy on pancakes and waffles, or even ice cream.  It is really easy to make and your family will love it.

1 cube butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk or 1 tablespoon vinegar add milk to make 1/2 cup
1 tablespoon corn syrup
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla

In a large sauce pan bring butter, sugar, buttermilk and corn syrup to a boil.  Boil for a minute.  Add baking soda, be ready for it to bubble up.  Keep stiring.  Take off burner, stir in vanilla.  Serve warm.
